Benfica kept the pressure on leaders Porto with a 1-0 win at Maritimo, while Rio Ave beat Gil Vicente 2-0 in Liga Sagres on Sunday.

Paraguay forward Oscar Cardozo netted the all-important goal in the dying stages for Benfica, taking his tally to 11 in all competitions this season.

Jorge Jesus’ side are now equal on 30 points with Porto, who they trail only on goal difference after their unbeaten run in the league was extended to 16 matches.

Rio Ave won their third match in a row at home and climbed to 13th after a 2-0 win over Gil Vicente.

Wires and Yazalde got the goals for the winners who are finding their feet after a slow start to the campaign.

Elsewhere, Vitoria Setubal and Feirense played out a 1-1 draw, with both goals coming in the first half.

Frenchman Bedi Buval handed Feirense a third-minute lead but a Neca penalty four minutes before the break levelled proceedings.

In Sunday’s other match, Leo’s first-half goal gave Uniao de Leiria a 1-0 win over Vitoria Guimaraes.
