Ligue 1 wrap: PSG held by Lille, Rennes horror run continues

Paris Saint-Germain and champions Lille played out a disappointing and physical 0-0 draw in Ligue 1 on Sunday.

What promised to be an explosive clash between second-placed PSG and Lille, who are third, ended with both sides struggling to create chances.

PSG forward Kevin Gameiro had the best opening of the match, but after being released by an exquisite Javier Pastore pass, he blasted his shot wide.

The first half at Parc des Princes was played at a high tempo, but it turned out to be a physical battle in midfield.

Midfielder Florent Balmont had Lille’s most meaningful shot of the half, though it went comfortably wide, while Mickael Landreau was untroubled aside from a Nene corner that nearly found its way directly in at his near post.

The game opened up after the restart, with Pastore drilling a shot wide and Joe Cole, on loan from Liverpool, denied by several defenders at the other end.

It was PSG who looked more likely, but their final pass evaded them as they were forced to settle for a point.

Elsewhere, last-placed Ajaccio recorded just their second win of the campaign after a 1-0 victory over the out-of-sorts Stade Rennes.

Defender Fousseni Diawara struck in the 83rd minute as Ajaccio moved to within six points of safety, while Stade Rennes are winless in their last five outings in all competitions.

Bordeaux moved into ninth after Ludovic Sane’s goal led them to a 1-0 win at home to Sochaux.
