Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku says that he would be open to loan move after becoming frustrated at his lack of playing time for the club.
The 18-year old was the subject of a big money move from Anderlecht in the summer but has since struggled to break into manager Andre Villas-Boas’ side.
He is yet to score for the Londoners in his limited appearances and with Didier Drogba, Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge all ahead of him in the pecking order, the Belgian admits he may need a spell away from the club to play regularly.
“You have to be willing to make sacrifices if you really want to succeed at a big club, so I have to be patient,” he said.
“However, if my situation doesn’t change in the next six months, I might opt for a one-year loan spell elsewhere.”
“That could be in England or in a country like France. I could have a good year at another club, and then return to Chelsea as a better player.”
With Drogba playing for the Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations and the recent departure of Nicholas Anelka to Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua, it seems unlikely that Lukaku would be allowed to leave in this transfer window.
Despite his lack of playing time, the Belgium international believes that the team comes first but also revealed his fear that one mistake could damage his entire Chelsea career.
“It’s frustrating that I don’t get much playing time, but I also have to think about the team,” he said.
“We were very lucky against Sunderland the other day for example.”
“Imagine what it would mean if I came off the bench and lost possession, resulting in a goal. That could be the end of my Chelsea career.”
