Melbourne Victory have appointed former Ipswich Town player and manager Jim Magilton as interim coach until the end of the A-League season.
Magilton, 42, will take over from Mehmet Durakovic, who was relieved of his duties as head coach on Friday after seven months in charge.
A former Northern Ireland international midfielder, Magilton served as an apprentice at Liverpool and made his first professional appearance with Oxford United in 1990.
He enjoyed spells at Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday, before finishing his playing career in 2006 following a seven-year stay at Ipswich.
Magilton spent three seasons as Ipswich manager between 2006 and 2009, before seven months in charge of Queens Park Rangers between June and December 2009.
He most recently served as an assistant coach with Irish Premier League champions Shamrock Rovers.
Magilton was closely linked with the Northern Ireland coaching job, before the appointment of Michael O’Neill last month.
Assistant coach Kevin Muscat will lead Victory in Saturday’s home match against Newcastle Jets at AAMI Park.
