Mancini vows to keep attacking

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini admits he should have been more defensive in their first Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.

The English Premier League leaders suffered a 2-0 loss to the Bundesliga outfit on September 27, and now face a tough task getting out of Group A.

Mancini said he could have selected a more defensive line-up for the clash at Allianz Arena, but affirmed his commitment to playing attacking football.

“The first game away in Champions League maybe we should have defended better, with one striker less,” Mancini said.

“That would have been good for us. But we started the season with this mentality. We scored a lot of goals in this way but sometimes it’s important to defend very well, like we did against Liverpool.”

“When we’ve played in the Champions League, we have been more offensive.”

City must win against Bayern at Etihad Stadium on Wednesday and hope Napoli lose or draw against Villarreal to progress to the knockout stages.

Mancini said his team were still a way off being the best in Europe, and he saw their continental campaign as a learning experience.

“At this moment there are several teams in the Champions League who are better than us,” he said.

“If Chelsea didn’t win it in 10 years this says something.”

“We won’t change anything (for this game). We want to get to second stage but if that’s not possible will go into the Europa League and we will try to win it.”
