Al Wasl and their coach Diego Maradona are in trouble again.
The UAE Football Association have banned Al Wasl from playing at home for their next two matches after fans let off flares in the 2-2 derby against Al Nasr.
The ban comes shortly after Maradona was fined for calling Al Ain coach Cosmin Olaroiu ‘quite rude’.
It came after Olaroiu criticised Maradona in a heated post-match conference last month.
Al Wasl’s next two scheduled home games are both against Dubai – one game is in the league and the other in the cup.
They will now be played at a neutral venue – something that Maradona believes puts his side at a big disadvantage.
“Both these decisions are unfair,” the Argentinian legend said.
“Whether it’s monetary penalties that have been given or that we are being ordered to play away from home. It’s unfair for the players, it’s unfair for the coaching staff.”
“Playing at home makes a big difference. There are six points up for grabs, and they could be very important for us, so we’re going to have to see what happens.”
“As far as the players and coaching staff are concerned, we can always talk to the fans and maybe change things.”
” I don’t see this happening to any other teams, like Al-Jazira or Al-Ahli. Ever since I got here the only club to be penalised is Al-Wasl.”
Maradona has had a tough time at Al Wasl of late – the side are without a win in their last five outings.
