New York Red Bulls defender Rafael Marquez is eyeing up a transfer to Brazil.

Marquez, 32, singled out Flamengo as a ‘great club’ when discussing a possible destination.

“No need to talk about football conditions, Flamengo are a great club,” Marquez told Globoesporte on Friday.

“The league is good. Brazil is growing in all directions and will host the World Cup.”

“If a worthy offer comes in (from Brazil), I will think about it. I’m open to any offer that is worthy.”

However, the Mexico international did not rule out extending his stay in the US, and spoke of his interest in taking up a more responsible role in New York.

“I do not know (whether to stay or not the club). They know that I am dedicated, but also picky. I cannot be on a team that have no expectations,” he said.

“I spoke with them at the end of the season to participate more in team organisation.”
