Inter Miami defender Jordi Alba has announced that he will retire from football at the conclusion of the 2025 MLS season.

Alba, who helped Barcelona to six LaLiga titles, five Copa del Rey triumphs, four Supercopa de Espana crowns, as well as the 2014-15 Champions League, was also a key member of Spain’s European Championship-winning team in 2012.

Since following Lionel Messi to Miami in 2023, the left-back has chalked up 66 MLS appearances, registering 31 goal involvements (11 goals and 20 assists).

The former Spain international shared the news of his retirement in a post on his Instagram account on Tuesday.

“The moment has come to close a truly meaningful chapter in my life. I’ve decided to bring my professional football career to an end at the conclusion of this season,” Alba said.

“I do so with complete conviction, peace and happiness. Because I feel I’ve walked this path with every ounce of passion I had and now it’s the right time to open a new chapter and close the previous one with the best possible feeling.”

Alba joins former Blaugrana team-mate and now Miami counterpart Sergio Busquets in bringing his playing career to an end.

Busquets confirmed last month that he would be retiring from professional football at the end of the current MLS campaign.

“Football has given me absolutely everything,” Alba added.

“Thank you to my team-mates, coaches, staff, club workers and rivals who pushed me to give my very best. I want to especially thank the clubs that have shaped my life.”

Miami have two more regular-season matches to play, and both Alba and Busquets will be hoping to extend their careers by helping the Herons go the distance in the MLS playoffs.
