Inter Milan boss Claudio Ranieri reserved praise for his side’s younger players after the Serie A giants earned a 1-0 away win against Genoa.

Yuto Nagatomo’s 67th minute strike was the only goal of the game as the Coppa Italia champions moved up to seventh in Italy’s top tier.

Ranieri was pleased with the victory, although he did accuse Genoa of playing in a defensive manner.

“I think it was a better performance from us. Genoa were very closed at the back, their first shot on goal was on 80 minutes, but we were definitely good value for the three points,” Ranieri told Sky Sport Italia after the game.

Andrea Poli, a summer loan signing from Sampdoria, made his first start for the club in Serie A and Ranieri was impressed with the midfielder.

“The youngsters have done well tonight. I particularly enjoyed Poli, who played a great game,” he said.

“Zarate is someone we are trying to bring back (to first-team football). He is still not fully fit, but when he is running like the others he will allow us to win many games because he is a champion.”

Inter are in league action again this weekend when they face another away trip – this time to Cesena – where they will be looking to continue their rise up the table.
