Former Barcelona defender Gabriel Milito has backed the Catalan club to defeat Real Madrid in Saturday’s first Clasico of the 2011/12 season.
The European champions go into the clash at the Santiago Bernabeu three points behind Real having played a game more, and will face tough opposition in the form of the La Liga leaders, who have won their last 15 games.
But the Argentine centre-half, now at Independiente, believes Pep Guardiola’s men still have the edge over Madrid.
“I hope the same thing happens as last year: that Barca win,” Milito told Marca.
“Madrid are the opponent who can do the most damage, but I still see Barcelona winning.”
“They have two different styles. They are the two best teams. With the appreciation that I have for Barcelona and my colleagues, I see them winning.”
The 31-year-old was full of praise for Guardiola and Lionel Messi, who he feels are the best coach and player in the game respectively.
“Pep is the best coach I have ever had,” Milito said.
“He is largely responsible for the great success of the club. The team never relax or do not get tired of winning. With Pep as coach, no one can relax.”
“Cristiano Ronaldo is very good, but Messi is the best.”
“Leo loves to take on responsibility; he has to withstand pressures that others do not have to endure. He is a unique player, there is no other like him.”
