Diego Milito dedicated his winner in Inter Milan’s 1-0 win over bitter rivals AC Milan to the fans that have stood by him.

Milito scored the only goal of the Serie A blockbuster, ensuring his bright start to 2012 continued.

The Argentine had a disappointing first half of the 2011/12 campaign, but followed up his brace against Parma on January 7 with the winner in the derby, as Inter clocked their sixth-successive win in Serie A.

“I’m really happy, truly content,” Milito – who now has seven league goals this campaign – told the club’s website. “We’ve played a great game against a great opponent.”

“We knew that it would be difficult but we have played a game of great concentration.”

“It was an important test for us, for our position in the table and for morale. We’re very happy.”

“To win a derby is the most beautiful thing, above all for the fans. Thanks to them, because they are always behind us. This goal is for them.”

Inter remain fifth in the standings but are now just six points behind league leaders Juventus, and just five behind Milan.
