Luka Modric insists his Real Madrid exit is not a goodbye but a “see you later”, after playing his final game for Los Blancos.

The Croatia great will depart the LaLiga giants following their exit from the Club World Cup, a 4-0 rout at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain ending their participation earlier this week.

Modric looks certain to join Serie A side AC Milan, with Massimiliano Allegri confirming the 39-year-old is due to join up with his new Rossoneri team-mates in August.

Taking to Instagram, Modric addressed Los Blancos’ supporters, writing: “My home for 13 years. My forever home. This is not goodbye, this is see you later.”

Modric departs Santiago Bernabeu having amassed 597 matches for Madrid, collecting 28 trophies in the process – more titles than any other player in the club’s illustrious history.

Since Modric made the move to Madrid from Tottenham in August 2012, Karim Benzema (515) is the only other player to have made more than 500 Los Blancos appearances.

Modric racked up 88 assists, a tally bettered by only Toni Kroos (93) and Benzema (118) during that time.

He also created 842 goalscoring chances, with only Kroos (974) registering more.
