Monaco CEO Scuro: Pogba plan for injury return ´not working´

Monaco chief executive Thiago Scuro says the plan to help Paul Pogba return to fitness is not working, only seven months after he first joined the Ligue 1 side.

Pogba put pen to paper on a two-year contract with Monaco last June but has made just three appearances in all competitions, totalling a mere 30 minutes of action.

The 32-year-old made his debut for the club as a substitute in a defeat to Rennes in November, marking his first competitive outing in 811 days following a two-year doping ban.

However, he has been hampered by a left calf injury he sustained in training, which has kept him sidelined for a month and added further frustration for both Pogba and his club.

“The program and the plan for Paul is not working the way we expected in the beginning,” Scuro said on Wednesday.

“He is very disturbed by the fact that he is struggling, [he wants] to be more available, to increase the minutes on the pitch.”

Monaco had hoped that Pogba would be able to make an impact for the club, who currently find themselves ninth in Ligue 1 and 17 points adrift of leaders Lens.

Pogba wept when he signed his contract with Monaco and even hinted at a possible return to Didier Deschamps’ France squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

And while Scuro hopes Pogba will return to the fold, he hinted at unspecified clauses in his contract that could lead to his stay being cut short.

“If it does not work, for sure, the parties can sit down in the summer and try to have another discussion. Where do we go?” he said.

“It’s not the moment to have this discussion because we are engaged in trying to find the solution and bring him back.”
