South Africa coach Pitso Mosimane praised his side after their 1-1 draw with Ghana, and hit out at local media he says are too critical of the team.

Mosimane’s depleted national team held a full-strength Ghana outfit to a draw in their friendly at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace outside Rustenberg on Sunday, after a 1-1 draw in their previous match against Zambia.

Mosimane, who has started preparing for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, said he would have achieved better results in both matches if he had been able to field the players he had initially called up.

“The local media is writing my obituary,” Mosimane said. “But I will soldier on because this is part of being the Bafana coach. I am patriotic and I will continue with my duties.”

“I think I have done well in these two matches (against Zambia and Ghana) given the circumstances that I have had to operate under.”

“Both these teams are going to the Africa Cup of Nations and we did very well to achieve the results that we managed.”

“It is very difficult when we cannot use all the players that we want to field but I am happy that these players followed instructions and kept their shape throughout the matches.”

“Ghana had a full strength side so my team should be commended because everyone was expecting us to lose by a huge margin.”
