Moyes ready for Donovan

Everton manager David Moyes plans to give US international Landon Donovan plenty of game time.

Moyes said Donovan will be thrown right into the thick of things when the LA Galaxy striker begins his two-month loan spell next month.

“We’ll try and get Landon as many starts as we possibly can,” Moyes told America’s ExtraTime Radio.

“But obviously that’s down to form, fitness, and all the things that go with it.

“He comes in a real busy period for us – January, there’s a lot of games over here – so he’ll get his football, he’ll get his playing time, and hopefully he can be as successful as he was last time.”

Everton, 14th in the league with 17 points from 15 games – just four points above the relegation zone – and with just 16 goals to their credit, need a hardworking player to boost their attack.

Moyes expects Landon to fit the bill.

“I see Landon doing a couple of jobs for us,” he said.

“I can see him playing off the right, which he did last time, we may need him off the left at times, and in fact, we’re really short on goals at the present time and I could consider playing him up front as well.”

Donovan’s previous stint at goodison Park in 2010 convinced Moyes the US international was the answer to Everton’s problems this season.

“Landon, in his own way, gave us speed, gave us ability,” Moyes recalled.

“He came in and did great against Arsenal, played in some big games for us.”

“We were in a very good run at the time, and Landon was very much a part of the team.”

“He was very good at integrating with the players, but more importantly for us was his speed, his attitude and, because he was experienced, it helped us a lot.”
