Julian Nagelsmann has handed Nick Woltemade and Tom Bischof their first Germany call-ups for their Nations League semi-final against Portugal next month.

Germany have injuries to contend with, as Kai Havertz, who has just returned from a hamstring problem, Antonio Rudiger, Jamal Musiala, Tim Kleindienst and Nico Schlotterbeck all miss out.

Woltemade scored 12 goals in 28 Bundesliga appearances for Stuttgart this season, the second-highest tally for the team after Ernedin Demirovic.

He also boasts the best shot conversion rate of any player in the squad to score more than once in the competition, at 24.5% (12/49).

“Nick [Woltemade] is a good option in attack, especially with the absence of Kleindienst. If we reach our top level, then we can beat Portugal,” Nagelsmann said in a German FA interview.

“That is our goal. We will do everything possible to reach the final. We want to play the final in Munich.”

Bischof, who will be joining Bayern Munich on a free transfer next season, created 50 chances for Hoffenheim in the German top-flight, the joint-most among the squad (level with Andrej Kramaric).
