Newcastle to face Tottenham, Liverpool take on Palace in headline EFL Cup ties

Holders Newcastle United will host Tottenham in the last 16 of the EFL Cup, while Premier League champions Liverpool will take on FA Cup victors Crystal Palace.

Newcastle reached the fourth round with a 4-1 victory over League One leaders Bradford City on Wednesday, while Spurs beat Doncaster Rovers 3-0.

Eddie Howe’s side will now welcome Thomas Frank’s men to St James’ Park for the pick of the last-16 ties, which will be held in the week commencing October 27.

There are four all-Premier League ties in total, with Arsenal taking on Brighton and Wolves hosting Chelsea.

Liverpool will get a chance to avenge their Community Shield defeat to Palace last month, with the teams also preparing to meet at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Saturday.

Cardiff City will travel across Wales to take on Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground, while Manchester City will visit Championship outfit Swansea City.

Grimsby Town, who eliminated Manchester United in round two and Sheffield Wednesday at the following stage, will host Brentford, while Wycombe Wanderers are at home to Fulham.
