Newcastle United are interested in signing Samu Aghehowa from FC Porto, according to Football Insider.
However, the Magpies, who won the Carabao Cup last season and are aiming to finish in the Premier League top four this season, are unlikely to spend big to secure the services of the 21-year-old Spain international striker in the middle of the season.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke said: “I don’t see them going out and signing Aghehowa in January.
“He’s under contract at Porto until 2029 and there is a release clause of around £87million in that contract.
“Although, any club that’s interested in Aghehowa will be hoping to probably sign him for less than that release clause as well.”
Aghehowa has scored six goals in seven starts in Liga Portugal for FC Porto so far this season.
