Niang: Senegal in with great chance

Senegalese striker Mame Niang believes his country have their best chance in some time of winning the Africa Cup of Nations.

The SuperSport United front man has warned people not to underestimate Senegal, who come into the tournament with a fearsome attack that scored 16 goals in six qualifying matches.

The Senegalese have one of the most formidable strike forces in the competition, boasting Demba Ba, Papiss Demba Cisse, Dame N’doye, Mamadou Niang and Moussa Sow.

“Senegal will surprise a lot of people,” Niang told Kickoff.com.

The West Africans are in Group A with Libya, Zambia and host nation Equatorial Guinea.

“I think we stand a very good chance to do very well in this tournament,” Niang said.

“Actually this will be our best chance in a while to win this tournament. I mean with the kind of strikers that we have in our team why shouldn’t we score plenty goals?”

“We just need to be organised with our play otherwise I see no reason at all why we cannot go there and win this trophy.”

Though Niang has previously played for the national team, he stood no chance of making the squad this time around.

“The reason why I haven’t even been considered is because all the strikers in the team right now are on fire at a higher level,” he said.

Senegal has never won the Africa Cup of Nations before.
