Nigeria have postponed their friendly match against Liberia due to labour protests that have paralysed the west African nation.

The friendly was scheduled to take place in the Liberian capital Monrovia on Sunday but the game has now been pushed forward by two weeks.

Nigeria’s labour unions have declared a strike over fuel subsidies, which has resulted in the shutting down of the country’s economy, including disruption of air traffic.

Nigeria played to a goalless draw against Angola in front of an almost empty stadium in Abuja on Wednesday.

A Nigerian Football Federation statement read: “The Nigeria Football Federation and the Liberia Football Association have both agreed to postpone the friendly match between their senior teams by two weeks, after which circumstances that have necessitated the shift would surely have normalised.”

The game is now expected to take place at the end of January.
