Hangzhou Greentown coach Takeshi Okada has the lofty ambition of one day beating Barcelona at the Club World Cup.
The former Japan national team coach was unveiled as Hangzhou boss at a press conference on Friday, and Okada revealed his plans for the club who finished the 2011 Chinese Super League campaign in eighth.
“We aim to qualify for the AFC Champions League, become champions there to qualify for the (Club World Cup) and beat Barcelona,” Okada said.
“Everybody laughs at this. But it is not impossible. When I said this to the players, they also laughed.”
“I want the team to make a maximum use of their potential by following the football of Barca or Real Madrid as the ultimate example.”
Okada, who led Yokohama F Marinos to the J.League titles in 2003 and 2004, added he wants to win the Chinese Super League next season.
The 55-year-old was similarly ambitious with the Japanese national team ahead of the 2010 World Cup, where they reached the last 16.
