Osvaldo injury compounds Roma striker shortage

Roma’s attacking stocks are looking thin after striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo suffered a thigh injury in training on Wednesday.

Less than 24 hours after Marco Borriello’s move to Juventus was officially confirmed, Osvaldo broke down in training at Trigoria.

“Osvaldo left the session early because of a suspected injury to the flexor muscles in his right thigh, the severity of which will be evaluated in the next 48 hours,” a statement on Roma’s official website read.

However, given that the Argentine-born Italy international had to be stretchered from the field, it appears likely that he will play no part in Sunday’s Serie A clash with Chievo at the Stadio Olimpico.

The 25-year-old striker has been in terrific form for Luis Enrique’s side this term, having already netted seven goals in 15 league appearances, though he was involved in a dressing-room bust-up with team-mate Erik Lamela after the defeat to Udinese at the end of November.
