Panucci: Inter back in business

Former Italy international Christian Panucci believes Inter Milan are back in contention for the Scudetto after Sunday’s 1-0 win against AC Milan.

A lone goal from Diego Milito in the second half proved the difference at San Siro, as Inter moved within six points of Serie A leaders Juventus.

“This derby was surely more important for Inter, because had they lost it, they would be practically out of the race for the Scudetto,” Panucci told Goal.com.

“Sunday’s victory has brought great enthusiasm to Inter’s fans, who now believe that the team can again fight for the title.”

“For Milan, the defeat against their arch rivals is certainly a heavy setback, but in my opinion they

remain favourites to win the league.”

The 38-year-old, who retired from football in 2010, added that Juventus are Milan’s biggest threat for the Serie A title.

“I always think of a close fight between Juve and Milan for the title, with Inter and Napoli potential candidates for third place,” Panucci said.

“These two teams can recover, I believe more in Inter than Napoli, while Udinese and Lazio will find their real place behind the top teams as the season wears on.”
