Pedro has accepted his role in the international set-up, claiming his is happy to do what is required of him by coach Vincente del Bosque.
The Barcelona player has netted five times in his last two starts for the national side – scoring a hat-trick against Belarus last time out – but could find himself on the bench against France on Tuesday – a prospect Pedro accepts.
Pedro told the Spanish Football Federation: “There are players like (Fernando) Torres and Andreas Iniesta, who are very experienced. I’m happy to contribute to the team’s success and scoring my first hat-trick was special, but it is more important that we secure the three points.
“All I am trying to do is to take advantage of the opportunities that come my way, and to ensure the coach has confidence in me when he needs to call on me.”
The Spanish attacker is aware of David Villa’s return to the international stage, and is pleased for his Barcelona team-mate.
“Villa is very happy, training hard, with enthusiasm and confidence. It is only a matter of time before he is back to his best. He is the perfect player, and one of the best strikers in the world,” he said.
“We are lucky that we have players who can adapt. At the moment we are acting with a ‘false 9,’ but we can play with a fixed striker as well.”
Pedro has spoken of the dangers Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema pose when they take on Les Bleus.
“It is a game that is very important to us, but we know it will be difficult. They are a great team with great players, such as Ribery and Benzema,” he said.
