(GSM) – Second-divison Chaves’ quest for an improbable Portuguese Cup title ended on Sunday despite a valiant effort in a 2-1 defeat to FC Porto.

Chaves, who have been relegated to the third division for next season, fell behind after just 13 minutes when Fredy Guarín’s goal gave Porto a 1-0 lead.

Fully asserting their dominance, Porto made it 2-0 just 10 minutes later when another Colombian, Radamel Falcao, doubled the advantage.

Porto stayed in control of much of match, but Chaves made a game of it with four minutes to play when Paulo Clemente cut the deficit to 2-1.

After Chaves’ Ricardo Rocha and Porto’s Bruno Alves were sent off late for second cautions, the final whistle sounded to hand Porto its second straight Cup and 15th all-time.
