Two camps who are desperately searching for their own respective Championships boosts on Monday night, Leicester will welcome West Brom to the King Power.

Leicester City

Starting with the hosts, losing their Premier League status last season, Leicester opened the 2025/26 campaign with their sights firmly set on booking an immediate top-flight return. However, making an immediate return to losing ways last time out as they opened the New Year with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Sheffield United, the pressure on Marti Cifuentes’ shoulders has now reached a boiling points. Coming under a huge amount of scrutiny on December 20th as they slumped to a 4-1 drumming against QPR, the Foxes have lost three of their previous four Championship appearances. Free-falling down the table and now facing a major uphill battle in the race to claim a play-off spot, Leicester have also won just a trio of their last nine outings against second-tier opposition. Likewise, showing some glaring defensive issues, Cifuentes’ struggling squad have remarkably failed to register a single Championship clean sheet since way back on September 20th.

Leicester City Team News

All still dealing with respective injury issues, Leicester will once again be unable to call upon the likes of Boubakary Soumare, Harry Souttar and former Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks. Likewise, not featuring since the start of November, Danish international Victor Kristiansen remains on the sidelines.

However, returning to Cifuentes’ squad over the weekend, Patson Daka could make a first Championship appearance since December 13th. Settling for a spot on the bench away at Sheffield United on New Year’s Day, veteran striker Jordan Ayew should be handed a full recall.

West Brom

As for the visitors, making an immediate return to losing was earlier in the week as they opened the New Year with a 1-0 loss away at Swansea, West Brom find themselves in an almost identical position to Monday’s opponents. Despite signing off 2025 with a much-welcomed 2-1 victory against QPR, Ryan Mason’s men have lost each of their other three Championship appearances and they have rightfully come under serious pressure this season. Scrapping it out at the foot of the table, the former Tottenham midfielder also has some serious pressure on his shoulders. Likewise, losing five of their last seven second-tier showdowns, the Baggies have also gained a reputation for their glaring issues on the road. In fact, Monday’s guests have lost all of their previous nine consecutive matchups away from the Hawthorns – a rut that stems all the way back to the start of October.

West Brom Team News

Yet to make a single Championship appearance since way back in October, West Brom will once again be without former Millwall man Jed Wallace. However, serving a three-match suspension on either side of opening the New Year, former Chelsea starlet Alfie Gilchrist will return to the Baggies’ squad.

With Mason potentially looking to make a handful of alterations on Monday night, Northern Ireland youngster Isaac Price could be handed a full recall. Registering eight Championship strikes so far this season, 24-year-old Aune Heggebo will spearhead West Brom’s charge in the final third.

Leicester City vs West Brom Key Factors to Consider

    • When Leicester and West Brom met for their reverse Championship showdown on September 26th, Monday’s opponents played out a 1-1 stalemate.
    • Both Leicester and West Brom have lost three of their previous four Championship appearances.
    • Leicester have remarkably failed to register a single Championship clean sheet since way back on September 20th.
    • The Baggies have lost all of their previous nine consecutive matchups away from the Hawthorns – a rut that stems all the way back to the start of October.
    • Six of the last eight meetings between Leicester and West Brom have finished with both teams finding the net.

    Conclusion

Two camps who find themselves at the heart of their own respective Championship nightmares, we look set for what could be a nail-biting affair from the King Power. Two defence who have continued to show some glaring issues, chances could fall at both ends of the pitch. With the Foxes remarkably failing to register a single clean sheet since way back in September, both leaky defences should be asked serious questions. It should also be highlighted, six of the last eight showdowns between Monday’s opponents have finished with both teams finding the net.

Verdict: Goal to be scored in both halves
