Real Madrid and Osasuna will lock horns with each other in La Liga this week. The match between Xabi Alonso’s side and Alessio Lisci’s team will be held at the Santiago Bernabeu and is scheduled to kick off at 8pm UK time on Tuesday.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid are embarking on a new adventure under Xabi Alonso. Alonso took over at the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of last season and replaced Carlo Ancelotti at the Spanish giants, and his main aim this campaign is to win La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.

Madrid did relatively well at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Although Los Blancos were aiming to win the competition, they went down to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals. Losing to a PSG side that won the UEFA Champions League last season is not embarrassing, although losing 4-0 was far from ideal.

Los Blancos will be keen on having a very successful 2025-26 season. Alonso is a former Madrid midfielder, and the Spaniard will be aware how demanding it is at the Santiago Bernabeu. Madrid’s plan this season is to win La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League.

Team News:

Real Madrid are likely to line up in a 4-3-3 formation against Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabeu. Thibaut Courtois will be in goal for Los Blancos and will have Trent Alexander-Arnold, Eder Militao, Dean Huijsen and Alvaro Carreras in front of him in defence. Arda Guler, Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde will be deployed in midfield. Brahim Diaz, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior will be the three forwards.

Osasuna

Osasuna are a modest club who are happy to be just in La Liga. They do tend to push as high as they can and ended up as high as ninth in the La Liga table last season. While it may not be too likely that Alessio Lisci’s side will do as well this time around, one suspects that they will be happy if they end up in the top half of the table.

Los Rojillos have not been too active in the summer transfer window so far. Osasuna have signed winger Victor Munoz from Real Madrid Castilla and right-back Valentin Rosier as a free agent after he left Leganes.

It is going to be tough for Osasuna to win against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in their opening game of the new La Liga season. However, if Osasuna get an early goal and sit tight defensively, then things could be very interesting for the visiting team.

Team News:

Osasuna are likely to line up in a 4-3-3 formation against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday. Sergio Herrera will be in goal and will have Valentin Rosier, Alejandro Catena, Enzo Boyomo and Abel Bretones in front of him in defence. Lucas Torro, Jon Moncayola and Aimar Oroz will be deployed in midfield. Kike Barja, Ante Budimir and Moi Gomez will be the three forwards.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Real Madrid have won 4 of their last 5 games.
  • Real Madrid have lost 1 of their last 5 games.
  • Real Madrid have scored 11 goals in their last 5 games.
  • Osasuna won 1 and draw 1 of their 5 pre-season friendly matches.
  • Osuna lost 3 of their 5 pre-season friendly matches.

Conclusion

Real Madrid are one of the favourites to win the La Liga title this season. While Osasuna should not be considered easy pushovers, it is hard to envisage anything but a win for Los Blancos at the Santiago Bernabeu.
