Rangers appoint Rohl as Martin´s successor

Rangers have found their new head coach, appointing Danny Rohl on an initial two-and-a-half-year deal.

Rohl has replaced Russell Martin, who was sacked on October 5 after an ill-fated 123-day spell in charge of the club.

Martin oversaw just one Scottish Premiership victory and saw his side crash out of the Champions League after a 9-1 aggregate defeat to Club Brugge in a qualifying play-off.

Rohl’s appointment ends a two-week search for a new boss, in which former head coach Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat reportedly turned down the chance to take over.

The German had previously been linked with Rangers earlier in their search for a new head coach but withdrew from consideration before he signed his contract.

“It is a huge privilege at an incredible club, recognised around the world,” said Rohl.

“I know it has been a difficult start to the season, but there is still so much to play for.

“The expectations here are clear. The fans want to see results now – my mentality and experience is to think in exactly the same way.

“We have no time to waste; we start straight away. I respect that trust is earned and understand we have to give the supporters confidence in what we are doing by showing it on the pitch from the start.”

Rohl’s only previous managerial role was at Sheffield Wednesday between October 2023 and June 2025, when he left amid off-field troubles.

In the Championship, he oversaw 81 matches, averaging 1.3 points per game during that time. He won 30 of his matches in charge (D18 L33), finishing with a 37% win rate and twice staved off relegation.

Rangers are sixth in the Scottish Premiership after eight games, 13 points off leaders Hearts. Rohl’s first game in charge will be away at Brann in the Europa League on Thursday.
