Craig Bellamy and Joey Barton clashed in the tunnel after Liverpool’s 1-0 win over QPR at Anfield on Saturday, according to reports.
Neither of the duo tend to be far from controversy and they were seen having an exchange of words on the pitch during the match.
The Daily Mail claims it spilled over to the tunnel after the game, with a series of foul-mouthed exchanges taking place between the pair after Luis Suarez’s header had secured victory for the hosts in the English Premier League encounter.
According to the report, Bellamy and Barton traded explicit rants and the rift threatened to become violent before they were separated and ushered into their respective dressing rooms.
An ‘eyewitness’ said: “It was more words than anything else, like handbags at 10 paces.”
“Let’s just say some of the language they used was only for the ears of the working man.”
“But neither player would have voluntarily backed down. There was a bit of a giggle in the tunnel afterwards given which players were involved.”
While the FA will wait to see referee Lee Mason’s report before making a final decision on whether to investigate the incident, though the duo are unlikely to receive any sanctions given no physical violence was involved.
QPR manager Neil Warnock had tried to brush off the on-pitch feud when he spoke to the press after the match.
