Borussia Dortmund captain Nico Schlotterbeck refused to blame Serhou Guirassy for their 3-3 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday.

Dortmund took the lead after 10 minutes through Maximilian Beier, but Frankfurt equalised when Guirassy gave away a penalty, which was dispatched by Can Uzun.

Nico Kovac’s side have now dropped 10 points from winning positions in the Bundesliga this season, with only Wolfsburg (15) doing so more often.

And although they are guaranteed to remain in second at the end of the weekend, Bayern Munich now have the chance to extend their gap at the summit to 11 points if they beat Wolfsburg on Sunday.

Nevertheless, Schlotterbeck insisted the draw was not down to Guirassy’s mistake in the first half.

“That’s happened to me a few times in my career and probably a hundred times in training,” said Schlotterbeck

“He simply didn’t see the opponent; it happens and it’s not a big deal. Serhou will sort it out, he’ll score again next time, and then everything will be fine.”

Dortmund went ahead again in the second half through Felix Nmecha, though Younes Ebnoutalib equalised before Mahmoud Dahoud put Frankfurt ahead in the 92nd minute.

But there was still time for more drama, with Carney Chukwuemeka rescuing a point for Dortmund three minutes later.

On the match itself, Schlotterbeck told Sat 1: “After the 93rd minute, we’re satisfied with the result because we still managed to score the equaliser.

“Basically, we played a good game, were actually better than Frankfurt, but conceded three goals, which is simply too many to win away.

“Unfortunately, after making it 2-1, we conceded the 2-2 too quickly; otherwise, things would have gone our way. So you have to take the point – but of course, we wanted to start with three.”
