While all of England’s elite might have already entered September’s International break, that doesn’t mean we are short of action from across the lower leagues.
As the EFL Trophy officially gets underway on Tuesday night, we have an action-packed midweek schedule from up and down the country on Tuesday night.
For those of you who are looking to stick on a midweek flutter, we have taken a look at some of the most attractive EFL Trophy betting tips which are available on Tuesday night.
19:00 Wigan Athletic vs Salford City
Spending almost the entirety of last season looking over their shoulder at a looming relegation scrap, Wigan are desperately hoping for smoother sailing this time around. However, despite extending on their EFL Cup campaign last week as they snatched a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Stockport, Ryan Lowe’s men have once again failed to find any kind of fluidity. Including a 1-0 loss at the hands of Luton last month, the Latics have mustered just a sole win from any of their previous four appearances across all competitions, the former Preston boss will be calling on his squad to claim an immediate response here. Despite gaining a reputation for their extended issues on the road, Wigan will be excited by their rugged success at the Brick Community Stadium. Including what was a routine 2-0 victory against Peterborough on August 16th, Tuesday’s hosts have not suffered a single defeat in front of their own supporters since the start of April. It should also be highlighted, Lowe’s camp have shipped just a sole strike in front of their own supporters in almost 400 minutes of action.
While Salford might have signed off the 2024/25 campaign in the midst of a real flurry, the Ammies eventually fell one-point adrift of the play-off places and suffered major League Two frustration. Although Karl Robinson’s men might have made it clear that their sole focus is on finally punching a top-six finish, the former MK Dons boss has seen his squad endure a stuttering start to proceedings. Missing out on what they had billed as a golden opportunity over the weekend as they eventually had to settle for a 1-1 stalemate at home against Cheltenham, Tuesday’s guests have also failed to find any real fluidity in the final third. Watching their EFL Cup come to a heartbreaking end on August 12th as they suffered a penalty shootout defeat at home against Rotherham, Salford have failed to register more than a single strike in four of their previous five appearances across all competitions. Last seen on their travels falling to a 1-0 defeat against Walsall, we are expecting a similar outcome in midweek.

19:00 Lincoln City vs Notts County
Although Lincoln might have largely limped their way over the finishing line last season as they eventually finished 17 points adrift of the play-off places, Michael Skubala’s side certainly haven’t shown any signs of a hangover since opening up the new campaign. With their sights firmly set on mounting a genuine top-six charge this time around, the Imps have suffered just a single defeat from any of their first eight appearances across all competitions and the mood around Sincil Bank appears to be at a real high. However, suffering late frustration over the weekend as they eventually had to settle for a 1-1 stalemate against Mansfield, the former Leeds coach will know the importance of finding some crucial defensive stability. Despite landing what was an action-packed 3-2 victory against Plymouth on August 16th, Lincoln have put just a pair of clean sheets on the board from any of their last six outings.
While Notts County might have opened up the new campaign with a stuttering start, the Magpies have certainly turned a real corner over the past fortnight. Mounting an eye-catching second-half comeback away at Tranmere over the weekend as they clinched a 2-1 victory away at Tranmere, Martin Paterson’s side have now registered seven points from their previous three League Two appearances. Once again installed as a standout contender to claim another play-off ticket this year, Tuesday’s guests have also found a recent clinical edge in the final third. Storming their way to a stellar 4-1 romp at home against Shrewsbury on August 20th, Notts County have bagged eight goals on their three-match unbeaten run. However, it should be highlighted, the former Burton boss has not seen his squad register a single clean sheet across any formats since opening up the new campaign.
