The next batch of Premier League superstars who are in Real Madrid’s sights

Relinquishing their La Liga crown to arch-rivals Barcelona last season and ending the 2024/25 campaign without a single piece of silverware to show for for their troubles, Real Madrid have certainly got a new era underway over the summer.

Bidding an emotional farewell to Carlo Ancelotti and now under the guidance of Xabi Alonso, Los Blancos have come flying out of the traps since getting proceedings underway last month.

Winning each of their first three La Liga appearances, the Spanish icons have also been praised for their successful summer business.

Along with completing what was a blockbuster deal to sign England international Trent Alexander-Arnold, the former Liverpool defender was not the only Premier League ace to complete a Spanish switch.

Activating the £50million release clause in Dean Huijsen’s deal with Bournemouth, it has also been heavily suggested that Los Blancos are eyeing another batch of Premier League superstars.

Ibrahima Konate – Liverpool

Watching Alexander-Arnold complete a controversial free switch to the Spanish capital back in June, it is no secret that Real Madrid are in deep discussions over a move for another Liverpool defender.

Forming what was a dominant partnership alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool’s defence last season as Arne Slot’s side stormed their way to a record-breaking 20th domestic crown, Ibrahima Konate is now entering his fifth campaign with the defending Premier League champions.

However, despite starting in each of the Reds’ opening three appearances so far this season, it has been heavily speculated that the French international is inching towards agreeing terms over his own free transfer to Madrid.

Now entering the final 12 months of his current deal at Anfield and reportedly rejecting multiple offers over an extension, it has been widely suggested that Konate is eager to follow Alexander-Arnold to the Spanish capital.

With some reports earlier in the week suggesting that the Anfield hierarchy have now reluctantly accepted that they will watch another one of their defensive superstars leave Merseyside on a free transfer.

Marc Guehi – Crystal Palace

While Marc Guehi’s proposed move to Anfield might have eventually crumbled in dramatic fashion late on Deadline Day, the England international certainly stole plenty of this summer’s attention.

Shockingly staying put at Crystal Palace as the September 1st deadline passed by, the former Chelsea youngster had already completed his Liverpool medical and Palace were ready to upload an emotional farewell message on their social media platforms.

Making it abundantly clear over the past 12 months that he will not be putting pen to paper on a new deal in south London, the January transfer window is officially the final opportunity that Oliver Glasner’s men will be able to receive any kind of financial return for their talismanic skipper.

However, with it reported earlier in the week that Liverpool are unwilling to make any kind of fresh approach when the window reopens, Real Madrid could be tempted to pull off what would be an almighty public blow to the reigning English champions.

Although Los Blancos might remain in advanced talks over a move for Konate, it has been reported that Alonso is a long-term admirer of the 25-year-old.

Micky van de Ven – Tottenham

Playing the full 90 minutes in each of Tottenham’s first three Premier League appearances this season, it appears that the 2025/26 campaign is hugely important one for Micky van de Ven.

Although the Dutch international might have endured a string of injury issues since arriving at Spurs back in the summer of 2023 following a reported £43million deal with German outfit Wolfsburg, van de Ven has been a real hit in the white half of north London.

While the 24-year-old might have only managed to make 13 Premier League appearances last season and was vocal about his frustrations, he remains one of Europe’s hottest young defensive stars.

Appearing to have got back to full fitness after getting a successful pre-season under his belt, new Tottenham boss Thomas Frank has stated that the Dutch ace is an integral part of his plans.

Despite still being sat in a contract that runs until the summer of 2029, speculation has remained since the winter and Madrid could be tempted to test Spurs’ resolve.
