´There is something different´ – Rytting Kaneryd says Sweden can go ´the whole way´ at Euro 2025

Johanna Rytting Kaneryd is confident Sweden can go “the whole way” at Euro 2025, insisting “there is something different” about the squad following their 4-1 rout of Germany.

The 1984 champions cruised into the quarter-finals as Group C winners with three victories from three, sealing top spot after putting the eight-time winners to the sword in Zurich.

Sweden, who have scored eight goals and conceded just one so far, are still seeking their second continental crown, having been runners-up three times since lifting the trophy 41 years ago.

Yet, Rytting Kaneryd believes she and her team-mates have demonstrated their credentials to be victorious in 2025.

“Of course, we always want to win,” the Chelsea midfielder said. “We always want to do better.

“We know we have done good in tournaments before, but we also know we haven’t gone the whole way.

“I have a really good feeling. You can see that in the squad there is something different this year, and we always believe.

“We want to reach the final and, with that being said, we need to take every game for what it is. We can’t look too far ahead. It’s going to be a challenge, but we are ready.”

Sweden will face the runners-up from Group D in the quarter-finals, with reigning champions England their likely opponents.

The Lionesses ran out 4-0 victors when they met in the Euro 2022 semi-finals and, should the two sides collide once more, coach Peter Gerhardsson is determined to exact revenge.

“That was a special game,” he reflected. “Now, we have other players, they have other players.

“It didn’t go well for us because they scored four goals, but that is history.

“Now, it is a new game if we are going to meet England. We are going to write a new history, a better history, a good history.”
