Marseille’s Mathieu Valbuena lauded his team-mates’ efforts after his goal sealed a remarkable comeback against Borussia Dortmund.
Didier Deschamps’ men looked to be staring at elimination from the Champions League after going 2-0 down to the German champions in Dortmund.
However, a Loic Remy’s goal deep into first-half stoppage time fuelled an unbelievable comeback that saw the French side triumph 3-2, with Valbuena’s 89th minute solo effort sealing the win.
“At 2-0 down, the task was rather complicated,” Valbuena told uefa.com, “Loic (Remy)’s goal boosted us a lot after the break.”
“After that, in the second half we knew we would get chances to score. Everyone in the team must be applauded tonight.”
Didier Deschamps also stated that he felt Remy’s goal was decisive in his side’s rise from the brink of elimination.
“Loic’s goal in added time put us back on track. Should we have gone in 2-0 at the break, it would have been very complicated. At 2-1, it was still open,” Deschamps said.
“Such a comeback here is absolutely fabulous. We failed to take our chance in the last game with Olymiakos, but now it is just a detail. We’re happy to be back in 2012.”
The draw for the next phase of the Champions League will take place on December 16, with Marseille set to draw one of the group winners, which include the likes of Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.
