Vietnam coach Falko Gotz has been sacked because of poor performances at the Southeast Asia Games.
Gotz was appointed by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) in June but, despite creating some positive results with the national team, the poor performances of the Under-23 side at the competition sealed his fate.
In announcing the decision, the federation’s executive committee said Gotz, as coach, had to take responsibility for the losses.
“In every country of the world, the coach is responsible for a defeat of the national team,” VFF vice-president Nguyen Lan Trung said.
The VFF also rejected an offer of resignation from the general secretary Tran Quoc Tran despite public pressure.
