Warnock: No difference between promoted sides

QPR boss Neil Warnock says the differences between the newly promoted teams are not as great as the league table may suggest.

Norwich City go into the Christmas period in 9th place, while Swansea are 14th, just three points further back. QPR lie in 16th position.

Warnock’s side face fellow new boys Swansea on December 27th, but Warnock believes all three new additions have adapted well to the top flight.

“I can’t see there being much difference, if I’m honest. I think you forget when anybody talks about us and the blow the other night (of losing to Sunderland) and then you look at the league table – the gap between us and Swansea is just two points above us,” Warnock said.

“And they’ve had a ‘fantastic’ season according to you guys. And they’re just two points ahead of us.”

“So, if we do pick up, we’ve got a great chance, haven’t we. Not just beating Swansea, but also of finishing about them and a lot of the other teams.”

“I’ve still look at the league table and – apart from the top seven – there’s nothing in the league that says we can’t get results wherever we go.”

Warnock believes one factor which went against his side on their arrival in the top flight was the delay in the change of ownership of the club.

“Obviously they (QPR’s new owners) didn’t come in till the last second, so we’d already brought some players in,” he said.

“The whole ball game changed when the new owners came in and we managed to get some (players in). Not enough. We missed out on a couple right on the deadline, so we know we need to get certain players as quickly as possible to strengthen.”

“We’ve known that all along. We were hoping we could get away with certain positions, but it’s not happened like that and we’ve been punished.”

Warnock also revealed he will be looking to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window.

“We’ve been talking about targets, but we will be bringing someone in,” he said.

“We can’t ask Heidar (Helguson) to go on all season. He’s playing tremendously at the minute.”

“I’d struggle to bring in anyone better than Heidar at the minute but, you know, as soon as the deadline finishes you’re going to get injuries, and that’s when we’ve got to make sure we cater for that.”
