Raheem Sterling insisted that no talks had been had with England boss Thomas Tuchel about a possible comeback after making his debut for Feyenoord on Sunday.
Sterling replaced Gijs Smal in the 61st minute of Feyenoord’s 2-1 win over Telstar at Stadion Feijenoord, with Anis Hadj Moussa’s first-half double sealing a comeback win.
The 31-year-old made the move to the Netherlands earlier this month after leaving Chelsea as a free agent following the mutual termination of his contract with the Blues.
Sterling has not featured for the Three Lions since the 2022 World Cup and has 20 goals in 82 appearances for his country.
Asked if he had been in contact with Tuchel ahead of this summer’s World Cup, Sterling said: “I haven’t spoken with him. Just keep playing football, that’s what’s most important.”
It’s time.

Sterling’s last appearance prior to facing Telstar came for Arsenal, while on loan from Chelsea, on the final day of the 2024-25 Premier League season.
He had fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge under Enzo Maresca, becoming part of their “bomb” squad, with new head coach Liam Rosenior electing not to reintegrate him.
Having now joined Feyenoord on a short-term deal, Sterling is excited to be back out on the field.
“Been a great introduction,” Sterling added.
“The trip to Belgium, I think, was a very good one for me to get integrated with the boys, and get to know your team-mates and know what they’re about, so it was very enjoyable.”
Feyenoord boss Robin van Persie said on Friday that while he was impressed by Sterling’s “exceptional quality,” he was not ready to play 90 minutes yet.
“Haven’t played in little bit, but just trying to keep fit. Been with the team now for a little bit, so it’s just all on building a step at a time and trying to get to match fitness,” Sterling said.
“Good to start your first game with a win. I think that’s the most important. [With] the targets that we’re chasing, so a good debut.”
