Former Al Wasl midfielder Fran Yeste has returned to UAE’s Pro-League to join Bani Yas after leaving Greek giants Olympiakos.
The 32-year-old Spaniard heads back to UAE barely six months after leaving Diego Maradona’s Al Wasl despite being only one year into a two-season contract with the Argentine deeming him surplus to requirements.
Bani Yas recently lost marquee striker David Trezeguet after an injury-cursed spell at the club, but rumours surfaced on Wednesday that they would try to replace him with Sevilla’s Frederic Kanoute.
However, Yeste, who made 288 appearances for Athletic Bilbao over 11 seasons, has officially penned a deal with Bani Yas until the end of the season after arriving in Dubai this week.
His representative Inigo Lacelle told Sport360 that Yeste had a point to prove after his disappointing exit from Al Wasl.
“He is delighted with this new opportunity that Bani Yas have offered him and he looks forward to proving to everyone that he is worthy to play for this great club,” Lacelle said.
“He didn’t want to leave the country last year but he was forced to do so. He is happy to be back. It is what he wanted.”
