Michael Owen has set his sights on joining a Premier League club by the end of transfer deadline day.

The former Liverpool and Manchester United striker has revealed he has shunned approaches from two European teams.

Owen was released by United at the end of last season after making four appearances in another injury-hit season, and despite plenty of interest from outside the top flight he is targetting a Premier League return ahead of anything else.

“I had two big European teams show an interest yesterday,” he said on Twitter.

“But my priority still remains to play in the Prem. We will see how the day pans out.”

It is the second time that Owen has found himself without a club at the end of the season. On the previous occasion the striker issued a 34-page brochure advertising his availability to other clubs leading to a move to Old Trafford.

Throughout the summer Owen has been linked with a move, with a move to Stoke highly touted, but a transfer has yet to materialise and he has shared his frustration at having to watch football to all his Twitter followers in the past week.

The former England striker believes he will play a part at some point during deadline day, even though as a free agent he does not have to have a deal in place when the window shuts.

“Up early, too excited to sleep,” he added on Twitter.

“Final day of the transfer window and I’m likely to play a part in it!”
