Southampton boss Nigel Adkins praised Tadanari Lee after the forward’s performance in his side’s 1-0 win against Leeds United on Saturday.

The Japan international provided a headed assist for Rickie Lambert’s 16th-minute winner in the Championship clash at Elland Road, nodding down a cross from Jack Cork.

“It was a fantastic goal from Rickie Lambert, a great header from Tadanari Lee and Lambert quality (with the finish),” Adkins said.

Adkins, 46, said he was pleased to reward Lee for his performances with another start, his second in as many games after he also put in a full shift against Watford last time out.

“He was lively in the first half. It was a call as he came and trained with us Friday morning,” Adkins said.

“I’ve gone through different things and I thought away from home he did ever so well for us last week and the momentum is with us.”

Since his arrival at Southampton, Lee has played six games in all competitions, scoring once and assisting twice.

League leaders Southampton are four points clear of West Ham United, who have two games in hand.
