Ivan Toney was on target once again for Al-Ahli, who moved up to second in the Saudi Pro League after cruising to a 2-0 win over Al-Hazem.

After struggling to break down their visitors in the first half, Toney broke the deadlock before a Sultan Tanker own goal secured all three points.

Mohammed Abdulrahman and Franck Kessie both saw efforts well saved by Bruno Varela in the first half an hour, before the goalkeeper was forced off with an injury sustained during the latter.

Ibanez then saw a header saved by his replacement Ibrahim Zaied before Galeno struck the woodwork with his left-footed strike in the box.

Zaied started the second half in inspired form, keeping Al-Ahli at bay until he could only parry Ibanez’s header from a corner, and Toney stretched to poke a first-time finish into the empty net 58 minutes in.

Al-Hazem failed to offer much in terms of a fight back, and the unfortunate Tanker turned into his own goal in the 76th minute, with his attempts to block Abdulrahman’s cross beating the goalkeeper.

Data Debrief: Toney on fire at home

Last time out at the Alinma Bank Stadium at King Abdullah Sport City, Toney scored a hat-trick, and he was back on target after failing to score against Al-Hilal in their last match.

He remains Al-Ahli’s top scorer this term, with this his 19th goal in the competition, with 16 of those coming on home soil.

And Matthias Jaissle’s team have now won their last seven league matches at home, doing so for the first time in their history. This kind of form could be key, especially with Al-Hilal only three points above them at the summit.
