BREAKING: Mohamed Salah confirms decision to leave Liverpool this summer

Both Liverpool and Mohamed Salah have confirmed that the Egyptian forward will leave the club at the end of the season.

“Mohamed Salah is to bring the curtain down on his illustrious career with Liverpool FC at the end of the 2025-26 season,” the official club statement says.

“The forward has reached an agreement with the Reds that will see him close a remarkable nine-year chapter at Anfield.

“Salah expressed his wish to make this announcement to the supporters at the earliest possible opportunity to provide transparency about his future due to his respect and gratitude for them.”

Salah’s transfer away from Liverpool was frequently a subject of speculation. Links with Real Madrid appeared in the Spanish media as soon as started playing well in 2017-18 and intensified immensely ahead of the clash between the two clubs in the Champions League final that season. He was wanted in Saudi Arabia in 2024, and Liverpool were said to have rejected an offer of €150million for his services that summer. The rumours were probably at their peak a year ago, when his contract was close to expiring, but he eventually signed a new one.

It’s not easy to remember every record Salah broke in a Liverpool shirt, nor mention everything he did to etch his name in the Premier League history pages. His numbers are simply unbelievable:

Salah was undoubtedly one of the best players of a great Liverpool era, in which they won the Premier League twice, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, the FA Cup, the Community Shield, and the League Cup twice.

Whatever happens at the end of the season, he will be remembered as one of the greatest ever to play for Liverpool.
