Christian Pulisic will be available for AC Milan’s Coppa Italia showdown with Lazio on Thursday, head coach Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed.

The Rossoneri collide with the Biancocelesti for the second time in the space of five days, having gone head-to-head in Serie A last weekend.

Milan prevailed 1-0 at San Siro thanks to Rafael Leao’s second-half strike, though the hosts achieved the victory without the injured Pulisic.

However, the United States international will return for the Rossoneri, who travel to Stadio Olimpico for the Coppa Italia last-16 clash having already beaten Bari and Lecce in this season’s competition.

Yet, Allegri will have to make do without the likes of Youssouf Fofana and Santiago Gimenez.

“The Coppa Italia is of no interest to anyone until you reach the round of 16, when the big teams come in, and it rightly starts to interest everyone,” the Milan boss told SportMediaset.

“We have to play a good game, it won’t be easy away from home. We won’t have extra-time, and so we have to take advantage of the 90 minutes available to us against a team that has the same goal as us.

“Pulisic is available, Fofana is not, but we hope to have him with us for Sassuolo [this weekend]. I need all our players, and it’s important that everyone is available.”

One of the flashpoints of Saturday’s Serie A showdown between the sides came when referee Giuseppe Collu was referred to his pitchside monitor to review a Lazio penalty appeal.

It led to an altercation between the dugouts, during which Allegri received a red card for his protests.

Maurizio Sarri suggested the VAR screen should be placed on the opposite side of the pitch to avoid further touchline scuffles, with his opposite number concurring.

“That could be a good solution,” Allegri added. “But we don’t decide that, there are competent bodies in place. We have to think about playing and doing the best that we can.”
