Alphonse Areola rejects PSG contract talks

France Football has learned that Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola is not prepared to discuss a new deal with the club at the moment.

The highly rated shot-stopper did well to climb above Kevin Trapp in the pecking order, but he was disappointed by the fact that sporting director Antero Henrique had attempted to recruit a new number one in the summer.

This is why Areola opted against starting talks on a new deal at Parc des Princes, which could prove to be a problem for the club as his current contract is due to expire in June 2019.

The 24-year-old is a product of PSG’s youth academy, and he managed to impress on loan stints with Lens, Bastia and Villarreal before he was given a chance to shine with the Saints.

Areola has so far featured in 25 Ligue 1 fixtures, while making another 8 Champions League appearances.
