Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti praised his side’s mental toughness in Sunday’s 2-1 victory at Dijon.
PSG looked resigned to dropping two points after Steven Paulle’s goal had cancelled out Siaka Tiene’s opener, but an injury-time strike from Kevin Gameiro gave the French capital club the three points to remain at the top of the Ligue 1 standings.
“This was an important victory because we won while having 10 men and in the last minute of the game,” Ancelotti told reporters. “Those are difficult conditions.”
“In the first half, we played well, even if we could not score.”
“After Mohamed Sissoko was sent off things evidently became harder for us.”
“We changed Javier Pastore’s position so that we could be better organised defensively.”
“Mentally speaking, the team was up to the task and we deserved to win this match.”
The Italian coach was full of praise for Gameiro, who was introduced in the last minutes of the match to score the winning goal.
“To score in the last minute is not something easy,” Ancelotti added. “I wanted to use Gameiro’s qualities to play deep and I think that he was ready to score.”
