Arsenal and City chase Carles Puyol

Arsenal and Manchester City have both targeted Barcelona captain Carles Puyol. City was already on the market for the versatile defender since this summer and now the Gunners have joined them to battle for Puyol`s signature.

The 31-year-old is out of contract next summer and both City and Arsenal want to take this unique opportunity of signing an experienced defender that can play anywhere in the back four on a free transfer.

Puyol has previously rejected the possibility of moving to Manchester United but faces diminishing opportunities at Barca following the summer signing of Dmytro Chygrynskiy from Shakhtar Donetsk and the return to fitness of Argentina international Gabriel Milito.
