According to multiple sources, Arsenal are set to hijack Tottenham Hotspur’s move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.
The Gunners were interested in Eze first – at least when North London clubs are concerned, but the talks went quiet for a while and they were believed to have given up on signing the attacking midfielder. Spurs took very concrete steps then and reached an agreement, both with Palace and Eze himself.
Arsenal have, however now stepped in again, in light of the knee injury suffered by Kai Havertz, and matched everything their neighbours had put on the table. The transfer fee is agreed at £60million.
The decision is now up to Eze himself, and it seems he prefers Arsenal to Spurs – it is said that the 27-year-old has emotional ties with the Gunners, and the fact that Mikel Arteta’s men are considered among the Premier League title contenders this season surely doesn’t hurt their chances either.
As far as plot twists go, this one is huge.
