Astrada takes over at Argentinos

Leo Astrada will replace Nestor Gorosito as coach of Argentinos Juniors.

The former River Plate and Estudiantes coach will fill the vacancy after a tragic accident forced Gorosito to resign.

The ex-Xerez man suffered severe injuries, including a fractured spine, on Saturday when he was involved in a car crash while driving to meet his team ahead of a match with San Lorenzo.

Gorosito, who remains in intensive care and is expected to spend up to two months in hospital, told the Argentinos board of his decision to step down and focus on his recovery on Tuesday.

Astrada, who last coached in 2011 at Paraguayan outfit Cerro Porteno, has been confirmed by Bicho president Luis Segura and the rest of the board as the man to lead the side for the 2012 Clausura, according to Ole.

Gorosito’s assistant Jorge Borelli will remain in charge for Saturday’s meeting with Independiente, before stepping down to allow Astrada to take over on Monday.

Argentinos lost 1-0 at home to San Lorenzo and after three games are 19th with just one point.
