El Mundo Deportivo has revealed that Barcelona were thinking about signing Paulo Dybala from Juventus in the summer transfer window.
Head coach Ernesto Valverde was forced to act quickly when the club cashed in on Neymar, and it is believed that Paulo Dybala, Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele were on his radar.
But, while the Catalans were priced out of a move for the Liverpool hotshot, it was Valverde who opted for Dembele over Dybala.
The former Athletic Club boss feared that the Argentine wouldn’t fit in well at Camp Nou due to being virtually the same type of player as compatriot Lionel Messi, and that was probably the correct decision.
Argentina coach Jorge Sampaoli also admitted that it would be too risky to play Messi and Dybala together ahead of the crucial 2018 World Cup qualifier against Peru that eventually ended goalless.
Following said setback, Los Albicelestes face a must-win game in Ecuador, where they are 4/9 to claim maximum points.
