Club Brugge missed the chance to move seven points clear on top of the Belgian First Division when they were held to a 1-1 draw at Kortrijk.

The early-season pacesetters had won five of their first six games in the new campaign, but were on the back foot immediately on Friday at the Guldensporenstadion when Bosnian defender Ervin Zukanovic scored to put the home side ahead.

That was where the scoreline stayed at half-time, but Club Brugge came out reinvigorated after the break.

Their search for a leveller was over in the 63rd minute when Colombian attacker Carlos Bacca scored, but there would be no winner for Georges Leekens’ men in a spiteful affair that saw referee Wim Smet hand out eight yellow cards.

The draw moved Club Brugge five points clear of second-placed Anderlecht, who play Lierse on Saturday, while Kortrijk are six points behind the leaders in fourth place.
